Love Identity & Purpose, Part 7

You may remember the Disney movie, the Lion King. The little lion, Simba, was boasting about what it will be like when he becomes king. But the truth of the matter is that everyone who calls upon the name of Jesus is already a King, and a Priest

But what does that actually mean? Revelation 9:10 tells us that we reign on upon the earth. Under the lordship of Christ, we are to rule and reign. We make war, possess land and dispossess the enemy. God’s plan from the beginning as we see in Genesis 1:26-28 is that we should be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, subdue it and have dominion over it.

Many of us have not been trained to rule. First, we want to recognize the position that we’ve been given. Revelation 5:10 tells us “And You [God] have made them [believers] a kingdom [royal race] and priests to our God and they shall reign [as kings] over the earth!” Then Exodus 19:6 says, “And you [covenant ones] shall be to Me [God] a kingdom of priests, a holy nation [consecrated, set apart to the worship of God].” As believers, we have been given the authority to rule and reign on earth and represent the King of Kings.

In order to know how to represent the King of Kings, we need to know Him and His ways. As we continue to read His word, we learn how to demonstrate Him on earth.

As Kings we represent God to people by demonstrating His character and nature. But we are also called to be priests, who minister to God and represent the people before God. This doesn’t mean that we perform the duties of Old Testament priests, because Christ is the ultimate High Priest and we are in Him as believers.

We have the privilege of offering up the sacrifice of praise to God with our lips and with a heart of thanksgiving. Hebrews 13:15 says, “Therefore by Him, let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

1 Peter 2:4-5, 9-10 Message tells us, “Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life. The workmen took one look and threw it out. God set it in the place of honor. Present yourselves as building stones for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life, in which you’ll serve as holy priests offering Christ-approved lives up to God. ..You are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do His work and speak out for Him, to tell others the night-and-day difference He made for you – from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. “

Let’s Pray

Father, I pray today that you help me to see that I am a King and Priest because of the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus. Help me to see my role to represent You in every way as I declare your good works night and day. Thank you for your love for me, and I ask you to help me to love others in that way. Amen.
