Reading Text – Ephesians 5:1-12
This week many people are scurrying around with last-minute Christmas Gift Shopping and planning elaborate meals for friends and family as we take this opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ with the ones we love.
Looking at the passage in Ephesians, we are reminded to be imitators of God, as dear children, and to walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. We are reminded that we once walked in darkness, but now as believers in Christ, we can walk in the light and share that light with others.

The Message translation says, “Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you…. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of Himself to us. Love like that.”
This season offers us a great opportunity to ‘love like that’ even when people don’t deserve it. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, you can love others extravagantly and demonstrate the light of Christ. With lights hung in neighborhoods and on trees indoors, I pray that you remember to be the light that shines bright and that as you share the love of Christ with others, they will be impacted by His love.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the marvelous light You sent to the world in Your son, Jesus. Show me how to spread Your light and love others this season. In Jesus’ name, amen.
