It’s not what you think!  I am predisposed to Choose Life!  It’s that simple.  The Bible tells us in the book of Deuteronomy that God commands us to Choose Life.  You see, when we don’t actively choose life, we are automatically choosing death.  Chapter 30, verses 11-20 spell out exactly what that means.  It is not a mysterious choice nor is it far off.  It isn’t in heaven nor is it beyond the sea.  But the word is very near – in our mouth and in our hearts for us to choose.

God has set before us life and good or death and evil.  Life and good is to love the Lord your God and to walk in His ways, keeping his commands that we may live and multiply and that we will be blessed in the land to go in to possess.

But if our heart turns away, turning a deaf ear and worshipping other gods to serve them, we will perish.

It’s that simple.  Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all will be added to you.  Seek other things and all will be taken away.

When we don’t actively choose life, we are automatically choosing death. Therefore, choose life!

I appreciate that in the beginning of this passage, it tells us that the choice is near to us – in our hearts and in our mouths so that choosing life causes us to live and our descendants to live as we obey God, clinging to Him, for He IS OUR LIFE and the length of our days that we may dwell in the land promised to us by God.

Is there an area that you are not choosing life?  Maybe it’s your thought life – begin by taking your thoughts captive to the Word of God.  Maybe it is your calendar – begin by prioritizing God over other less important things.  Maybe it is relationships – Choose today to forgive those who have offended you, loving your enemies, blessing those who curse you, going good to those who hate you and praying for those who spitefully use you.  (Matthew 5:44).

Let’s Pray

Father God, today I purposefully and willingly choose life.  I choose to set my affections on You and your Kingdom, following in Your ways.  I choose to use my mouth to declare Your goodness and to bless others.  I choose to love You and share Your love with those around me, even those that aren’t kind to me.  Thank you, God that you love me and that I’ve been given the choice to choose life today and every day.  In Jesus name, Amen.
